I worked on Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure from the very beginning, my roles for this project have been Game Designer, UI Designer and Narrative Lead.

Inventory System:

I designed an inventory system for the players to organize their tools, weapons and resources.

  • The system accounted for changes and balancing in regards to amount of inventory slots

  • The system included inventory upgrades

  • The system was connected to other major systems

Refining Station System:

I designed a system to give the players possibilites to convert one resource into a better resource.

  • The resources followed a logical upgrade path, giving a feeling of progression

  • The system had variables for how long it would take and how many items were needed and gained

  • The system backend allowed for any item to be turned into any other item

Rating System:

I designed a rating system to encourage the player to explore the game areas.

  • The system was designed to count how many of certain activities were in an area, and calculate a percentage value of how many acitivites had been completed

  • This system was incorporated into the map system so the player could always have an overview of activities to do

Collection System:

I designed a collection system for the players to acquire recipes.

  • The system was designed so the player could make gradual progress to receiving recipes for decoration items as rewards

  • This was scrapped in favor of a shop system

Shop System:

I designed a shop and NPC system for the players to acquire different items and recipes.

  • The system was designed as a classic shop system with a currency being traded for items or recipes

  • The NPC part of the system was designing when and where they would be available to sell their items, and which item each NPC sells and buys

Interconnectivity System:

I designed a system to make placed decorations have interactivity between them.

  • The system was designed to give multiple types of interactions between decorative items the player places in the game world

  • The system would also give boons to players in the vicinity of these placed items

  • This was scrapped due to time and lack of resources

Companion System:

I worked on a companion system for the player to interact with creatures in the game.

  • Creatures that can be tamed and controlled to do certain activities

  • The creatures can interact with special nodes to get specific resources

  • The creatures can level up and mutate
